As we are on the threshold of yet another academic year 2011, it gives me great pleasure in welcoming you once again and also the class of several hundred more new students to this great campus. By joining this university you have clearly expressed your choice of the course of study you wish to take and the University of your preference. As the Chancellor of Sri Ramachandra University, I can assure you that the trust you have placed in us will be meaningful and not in vain. You will have every reason to be proud and happy about your belonging to this University.
Our University has completed 25 year of its existence and as I look back at the strides taken and the milestones crossed, I feel rather overwhelmed. What you see in the campus today is the outcome of the far-sighted vision of my beloved father, Shri. N.P.V. Ramasamy Udayar and the loyal committed and dedicated services extended to us by the faculty and administrative staff of Sri Ramachandra University. The University is a fully NAAC accredited institution with a CGPA of 3.52 on a 4- point scale - a distinction that very few medical institutions in the country can claim.
Sri Ramachandra Medical Center was totally upgraded to meet the growing needs of technology and the expectations of the streams of Inter-national patients as well. The new In Patient Block will further enhance the patient care services offered to the public. The phenomenal progress made in the last several year lead us to the prestigious accreditation by the JCI (Joint Commission International), USA – the first teaching hospital in India to receive such recognition from the JCI.
The Medical Council of India (MCI) has recognized and upgraded the Regional Centre in Medical Education Technologies, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Sri Ramachandra University, as a Nodal Centre to conduct both Basic and Advance course in Medical Education Technologies, a standing testimony for the great strides the Institution has made in the field of innovative medical curriculum.
The University has made quantum leaps in the area of Medical and Basic science research and has signed MoUs with many Universities and Institutions in India and abroad for collaboration in academic research. The Harvard connection that we nurtured and developed in the past had consistently helped us in establishing and monitoring the quality of medical education, healthcare and research.
Today SRU has developed an all new integrated modular learner centered curriculum for MBBS that other institutions want to emulate. Similarly, the curriculum for all the undergraduate and postgraduate courses are constantly upgraded, to include the latest developments in the respective fields of specialization.
I am giving you all this information only to let you know that here at SRU, we are striving our best to give our students the best of ambience, excellent living in facilities including multi cuisine dining areas in addition to the value added quality based education. Your teachers are there for you to seek help be it in academic, social, emotional or career related areas any time you need them. Student counseling services also are readily accessible for the students to utilize. My expectations of you is for you to make the best use of what we offer here and help carve for your-self a future that will make you, your family and the university proud.
