The Department of Biomedical Sciences conducted the first two-day intercollegiate Student Annual Meet Matrix 2019-scaffolding young minds on 5th and 6th February 2019. The program was inaugurated by Prof. P.V. Vijayaraghavan, Vice Chancellor, SRIHER. About 83 students from outside Colleges and Universities across the city and students from various constituent Colleges of our institute participated. The technical sessions, subject-based student events like Adzap-a team play to pull out ideas to sell a scientific product commercially, Monoacting-single person enacting a scientific term for the team member to answer, Quiz-on scientific questions, Connexions-to relate pictures and words to get a meaningful scientific term, short film-to create public awareness on environmental pollution and oral presentation-on research data related to recent biomedical research were conducted. Students received cash prize and certificates.
On the 17th and 18th September 2018, the Department of Biomedical Sciences conducted a knowledge sharing workshop on ‘Biomedical Techniques’ for school biology teachers. The two-day workshop started with an inaugural ceremony. The Vice Chancellor preceded the inauguration in the presence of the dignitaries, Prof.K.V.Somasundaram, Professor of Eminence and Advisor (Academic), Dr. Solomon F.D. Paul, The Principal, Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, Technology & Research, Dr. A. Sumathy, Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, 12 Biology teachers from various schools who have enrolled themselves to participate in the workshop and other senior faculty members from various departments. The inauguration was graced by the presence of the Guest of Honor, Mr. V. Venkatachalam, Dean, Vels Group of Schools, Chennai. The participants had hands-on training in techniques under various broad fields of life sciences like Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Human Genetics, Drosophila Biology and Animal Cell Culture.
