Conferences organized by the department
National Conference on Recent Updates and Multidisciplinary Approach to Respiratory, Head & Neck and Neuropathology
A national conference “Recent Updates and Multidisciplinary Approach to Respiratory, Head & Neck and Neuropathology “  was conducted between August 8th-!0th 2019 in the Department of Pathology.  It was a unique conference which involved recent updates  in the above systems. The conference had eminent International speaker Dr AnandLagoo, Dukes University USA and other National speakers Dr GayathriAmonkar, Dr Shubada Kane and Dr Nandeesh BN.

The conference was attended by more than 150 delegates and was also a platform for postgraduate and undergraduate poster and oral presentations. The conference included recent updates and slide seminars and panel discussions by team of pathologists , clinicians and Oncologists .

International conference on Update in Diagnostic Pathology, Morphology, Immunohistochemistry and Ancillary techniques.
Department of Pathology  conducted the  2nd International conference on Update in Diagnostic Pathology, Morphology, Immunohistochemistry and Ancillary techniques from August 2nd to 4th, 2018. Six international speakers five from MD Anderson cancer centre, Texas and One from Memorial Healthcare system, Florida. It was a three day conference focusing on subspeciality each day. The first day on Skin and soft tissue pathology, the second day on  Hematopathology and the third day on Genitourinary pathology with separate day wise registrations for the benefit of the delegates. Also have launched  srmcpathacademics website, where all departmental  programs will be show cased and  the study materials  being  uploaded. More than 150 delegates from different parts of our country and abroad have participated.

International Conference on Update in Diagnostic Pathology: Morphology,Immunohistochemistry and Ancillary Techniques
Department of Pathology conducted "International Conference on Update in Diagnostic Pathology: Morphology,Immunohistochemistry and Ancillary Techniques" from January 19th to 21st 2017. 150 national and international  delegates participated.  There were six eminent speakers  from MD Anderson Cancer Centre, University of Texas,USA, along with SRMC faculty members.The speakers had discussed regarding the recent and the diagnostic research updates .

Hemotask 2019- Hemostasis A to Z – Workshop/Hands on Training
The Department of Pathology organized Hemotask 2019- Hemostasis A to Z, an advanced hemostasis workshop from 13th to 15th June  2019 for the third consecutive year. The workshop dealt with practical aspects of coagulation and included hands on training modules, demonstrations and case discussions along with lectures. A handbook on the proceedings of the workshop was released. 43 postgraduates and consultants from India and abroad attended.

Hemotask  -2018- Workshop/Hands on Training
Department of  Pathology organized a two days workshop on coagulation from basics to advanced “Hemotask 2018” on 14th and 15th September 2018. 33 final year postgraduate students and faculties from across the colleges of India attended the sessions. A course book consisting of short articles by inhouse faculties was released during the inauguration.

SRU Hemotask- Workshop/Hands on Training
An exclusive coagulation workshop, the first of its kind in south india was conducted on 1st July 2017 with participation by 40 delegates with external faculty from reputed institutes. The program included hands on training in coagulation abnormalities along with clinical scenarios. This workshop was highly appreciated by all the participants with feedback for the program to be conducted every year. The program was conducted under the headship of Dr. Sandhya Sundaram and Dr. Febe Renjitha Suman was the  organising secretary.

Seminar
CME on Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura –
Department of Pathology had organized a CME on Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic purpura on 27th March 2019 at the Pathology Demo hall in the First floor of Medical College Building held between 2 to 4 pm.. 50 Faculties and postgraduates  across specialities like Pathology, Peadiatrics, Physiology and Transfusion Medicine were benefitted by the program . The experts from field of Pathology , Adult and Paediatric hematology discussed about the recent updates  in the topic. The highlights of the CME included the Role of  T regs in the Pathogenesis,  pros and cons of various treatment modalities available for the treatment of the disease in adults and children. The speakers included Dr.Febe Renjitha Suman (Professor of Pathology ), Dr.Krishnarathinam (Senior Consultant  of Haemato Oncology) & Dr.Dhaarani Jayaraman (Assistant Professor of Department of Paediatrics- Haemato Oncology division)

New Horizons in Gastrointestinal Pathology
Department of Pathology conducted a  CME  on  “NEW HORIZONS IN GASTROINTESTINAL PATHOLOGY on  13th June 2018 at the Pathology Demo hall in the First floor of Medical College Building .This CME was conducted in collaboration with  Medical gastroenterology to discuss the grey areas in diagnosis of GI lesions.  Dr.Ranikanthan, MBBS, MS, FRCS, FRCPC, FCAP, M.Ed,Professor of  Pathology,Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine,College of Medicine, Saskatoon, SK, Canada was the guest speaker. The CME also had speakers from faculty from Department of Pathology & Medical Gastroenterology. 47 delegates including the faculties and postgraduate students from the Departments of Pathology , Surgical & Medical Oncology and Medical Gastroenterology participated .The afternoon session comprised of interesting cases  discussed by postgraduate residents from both departments.

CME on Cardiac Pathology –
Department  of  Pathology conducted  a CME on Cardiac Pathology on 13th December 2018 at Pathology Demo hall in the First floor of Medical College between 10 am to 12 noon. Dr.Nagendra Boopathy ,Consultant Cardiologist  delivered a lecture on “Intracoronary Imaging – The Third Eye for the Cardiologist” which was followed by panel discussion on “Newer trends in Myocarditis” by Dr.Muralidharan (Head of the Department – Cardiology) ,Dr Swaminathan Rajendiran (Professor – Pathology) and Dr.Jebaraj (Interventional Pediatric Cardiologist) moderated by Dr Barathi (Assistant Professor- Pathology).Approximately 51 delegates attended consisting of faculties and postgraduate students from the Department of Pathology & Cardiology.

Guest Lecture
CME on STAT 3 Ovarian Cancer – Guest lecture
Department of Pathology  organized a CME on STAT 3 Ovarian Cancer 18th June 2018 at the Pathology Demo hall in the First floor of Medical College Building .The invited guest speaker  Dr.Karuppaiyah Sevendiran ,Phd from the Comprehensive Cancer centre of the Ohio State University spoke about the advantages and disadvantages of the  STAT 3 as targeted therapy on the Ovarian Cancers.39 delegates consisting of faculties and postgraduate students across the Departments of Pathology,Molecular Genetics and Microbiology attended. Our international Visiting faculty Dr.Ranikanthan, MBBS, MS, FRCS, FRCPC, FCAP, M.Ed,Professor of  Pathology, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine,College of Medicine, Saskatoon, SK, Canada was invited as a special invitee for the programme .

Vacuum Assisted Breast Biopsy
The Department of Radiology and Department of Pathology organized a guest lecture by Dr.Selvi Radhakrishnan, Director of Chennai Breast centre on the topic of “Utility of VAB-Vacuum assisted breast biopsies” at the 1st floor Pathology Demo Hall on 25th Feb 2019 from 2-4pm.

It was attended by over 41 participants consisting of faculties and postgraduate students .The talk was very interactive. It was attended by Surgeons, Radiologists, Pathologists and post graduates from clinical and para clinical departments.

The speaker shared her experience of using vacuum assisted biopsy as a way to get more biopsy material to reduce the rates of false negatives in breast cancer.It was appreciated by all.

CME on “Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumours –
Department of  Pathology  organized a CME on Pancreatic Neuroendocrine tumour  on 23rd January 2018  and the guest speaker was our International faculty Dr.Ranikanthan Professor of Pathology and Laboratory medicine, University of Saskatoon, Canada.  The program was attended by 60 delegates including faculties and postgraduates of Pathology,  Surgical Gastroenterology and Medical gastroenterology. The programme was regarding the recent  diagnostic trends on pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours .

CME on Paediatric Non Neoplastic Liver Lesions
Department of  Pathology organized a CME on PAEDIATRIC NON NEOPLASTIC LIVER LESIONS on 29th January 2018 at the Harvard Auditorium,Central Library .The guest speaker was an International faculty Dr.Sarangarajan Ranganathan, Professor of Pathology, Medical Director, Anatomic Pathology, Childrens Hospital of Pittsburg, UPMC, USA. This program was attended by 50 delegates consisting of  faculties  and postgraduates of Pathology, Pediatrics and Neonatology. The talk was delivered on the various diagnostic pathological aspects of  non neoplastic liver lesions in the pediatric age group .

CME on Detection of therapeutically targetable EGFR T790M resistance mutation in lung cancer
Department of Pathology organized a CME on Detection of therapeutically targetable EGFR T790M resistance mutation in lung cancer on 6th April 2018 at the at the Pathology Demo hall in the First floor of Medical College Building held between 12 to 12.45 pm.The invited guest speaker was Dr Jay Mehta a renowned pathologist from SRL Ranbaxy , Mumbai who had insisted on the targeted mechanisms of the resistance mutation gene T790 M in lung cancers and the role of it`s mutation in the second line of chemotherapy .Approximately 65 delegates attended consisting of faculties and postgraduates from across the Departments of Pathology, Respiratory Medicine ,Surgical & Medical Oncology  which was followed by Lunch.

6th Endowment Oration – Department of Pathology
The Department of Pathology conducted the sixth " Department of Pathology Endowment Oration " on 24th October 2017. An eminent speaker Prof. C. Sundaram MD (Pathology), FAMS,FICP, Former Dean, Senior Professor and Head of Pathology, Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad delivered the oration on “Myopathology of Dermatomyositis”.100 delegates including many postgraduate alumni participated from all over the country. Our Vice Chancellor Dr.P.V.Vijayaraghavan presented the citation & felicitated the Orator.

CME on Chronic Kidney Disease
The Department of Pathology  conducted  a “CME on Chronic kidney disease”  on  27th November 2017 at the Pathology Demo Hall of the first floor Medical College Building .The invited International  speakers  Dr.Annika and Dr.Carl were  from Karolinska Insitute and Medical University, Sweden and discussed the topics on Renal biopsies with extensive morphological examinations - Essential for diagnosis of most kidney diseases, and in particular CKD & on Environmental and/or occupational exposures and chronic kidney disease’. The program was attended by more than 80 delegates from different disciplines like Genetics, Nephrology, Environment and Health Engineering.

Hand on Training
CME on Liquid Based Cytology
Department of Pathology organized a CME on Liquid based cytology and for the patients diagnostic use the liquid based cytology test was  inaugurated officially by the Department faculties of Pathology and Gynecology on 19th June 2019 at 2-4pm in the Pathology Demo hall, First floor Medicalcollege building.The guest speaker was  Dr.Namitha,BD Global Medical affairs which was followed by panel discussion by our inhouse faculty.

Mendely Training course for the Postgraduates
Mendely is a web based application for researchers for managing and sharing research papers. A three hours practical workshop was conducted by Dr. Rithika Rajendiran ,MD-PhD Student in the department of Pathology. It was attended by 25  postgraduate students and faculty members of the Department of Pathology. She explained and demonstrated the usage of Mendely App on the phone and the Mendely Desktop on the laptop. This was followed by hands on session where all the participants attempted to use the software and their doubts were clarified.
