We also have an Eye Bank which is affiliated to the Eye Bank Association of India, Ramayana International Eye Bank, L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad. Donor eyes are retrieved by Enucleation / In situ excision. They are preserved in M K (McKarey Kaufman) medium and are utilized for lamellar and Penetrating Keratoplasty. The Eye Bank also helps in creating awareness about eye donation to the public.
Facilities available in Eye bank:
1. Storage of donor tissue – Moist chamber and MK medium
2. Specular microscopy and pachymetry
3. Tissue retrieval by in situ excision
4. Donor pledge cards
5. Educational material regarding eye donation
Eye donation calls are attended to 24 x 7; we also have a trained Eye Bank technician who helps in Eye bank activities.
