About the Department / Program
The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology started functioning in the year 1986. Medico-legal work was started from year 1992 and it still holds the position of only private medical institution to conduct Medico-legal autopsy. It is a recognized Post-graduate institute in the state which immensely facilitates learning and hands on training to our undergraduates and postgraduates. At present, apart from unblemished medico- legal work since its inception, the department is engaged in multifarious activities of teaching,training and research. It is involved in medico-legal postmortems, Clinical Forensic medicine Services & court related works. Department provides expert opinions in referred cases from courts , CBI - Crime Branch and Police from other states also.
On behalf of the state, the department does free Medico-legal service on all days throughout the year and also extends the embalming facility to the public. The department extends the academic arena through commencing M.Sc Forensic Science program in 2021.
