Pharmacology

About the Department / Program
The department of Pharmacology a basic medical sciences specialty, primarily focuses on imparting knowledge and skills about drug discovery, drug development, drug administration, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, safe and rational use and prescribing of drugs in clinical practice  to health care professional students from medical, dental and paramedical specialties of the University. It is armed with dedicated, committed and dynamic facilities and teachers with immense passion for teaching. Students are trained by faculties by a multitude of innovative methodologies such as integrated and innovative methods of teaching, team teaching, group discussions, problem, case, and project based learning methods. |Assessment drives learning so we also use socrative, Kahoot, connexions game based Quizzes, role plays, and debates to drive the interest of learning in the students, Students are also made to study by participation in skits for creating public awareness related to drug use and Pharm fun / Pharm fest specialty events. In addition to teaching, our faculty are guides for medical and paramedical students such as ICMR TSS Integrated MD-PhD course, full time and Part time PhD research scholars, and also our own faculty pursuing part time PhD research work and are highly collaboratively motivated in contributing towards research in the fields of nanomedicine, phytochemicals, ethnopharmacology, drug designing, human genetics, oncology, neurology, psychiatry, alternative to animal models like in-vitro and zebra fish research and in medical education. They strive sincerely in creating a dynamically evolving scientific environment. Teaching and research opportunities are satisfactorily met with the availability of well-equipped state of the art facilities such as air-conditioned lecture halls, demonstration rooms with high-quality Audio-Visual aids, research and experimental lab. The department is also involved in rendering its clinical expertise with regard to Medication safety and Clinical pharmacology services in the Sriramachandra Medical Centre and Sriramachandra general hospital and Reporting adverse drug reactions with contributions of our faculties in the pharmacy
and therapeutics committee and pharmacovigilance respectively. Faculties also have to their credit research publications in national and international renowned indexed journals. The highlights of the department apart from education, research is also in organizing clinical pharmacology, medication safety conferences, workshops and courses like “ASPIRE” annual rapid review course relevant to the current trends involving nationally acclaimed resource persons, offering tremendous opportunities to pharmacologists in sharing and updating their knowledge.
