About the Department / Program
The Department of Medical Surgical Nursing deals with courses related to adult health nursing including geriatrics within the framework of the curriculum of Sri Ramachandra University and the Indian Nursing council. The clinical services of the department include clinical supervision of students, patient care, in-service education, conduction of awareness programs, health screening, clinical administration and research activities. The services are rendered in various areas of Sri Ramachandra Hospital that include: general medical & surgical wards, out-patient departments, specialty wards, critical care units, intensive care units, operating rooms, diagnostic and procedural areas. The department also offers value based add on courses, credit based certification course and preceptorship training programs.

Mission:
The mission of Dept. of Medical Surgical Nursing is as follows:
- Keep abreast with latest development in the field of Medical Surgical Nursing
- Promote hands on skill in advanced nursing procedures in Medical Surgical Nursing areas
- Facilitate research activities by the student and faculty in Medical Surgical Nursing field
- Update the students and faculty of the change in protocols & policies in the field of Medical Surgical Nursing
- Develop guidelines for the clinical conduct in the field of Medical Surgical Nursing
- Ensure critical evaluation of faculty &student activities in the field of Medical Surgical Nursing
- Encourage collaborative activities with other departments in the college and university
Activities:
- Teaching students of various nursing programmes
- Organize seminar, CNE, faculty clinical presentation, workshop, conference and rapid review
- Conduct regular meeting among the members
- Prepare guidelines for the departmental activities
- Supervision of the students in the clinical areas
- Co-ordinate among members to attend professional activities
- Communicate relevant events of the dept. to various institutions outside the university
- Observe health related days collaboratively with various depts. of the university
- Conduct collaborative research
- Take part in patient care activities and clinical administration
- Integrate with nursing service to provide quality nursing care
- Observation of health days like world diabetes day and Anti Obesity day
- Conducted 2nd state level workshop on “Test construction and Item writing
