About the Department
The Department of Psychiatric Nursing has adequate facilities for teaching - learning activities and research work. The psychiatric nursing laboratory has provision for various methods of teaching - learning for the undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students. The self learning desk is one of the innovative tools installed in the Psychiatric Nursing Laboratory for the use of nursing students to stimulate their critical thinking and to improve skill. The books, standardized tools and research projects available in the department, serve as ready reckoner for the nursing students. E- nursing process hike the quality of learning in patient care. The department observes significant days like World Mental Health Day, World Alzheimer’s day. The department has organized National Psychiatric Nursing Conference with a support grant from ICMR in October 2016. Yearly conduction of Continuing Nursing Education Program with Tamil Nadu nurses and midwives council accredited credit hours, Rapid Review Program, and various mental health camps in collaboration with the department of psychiatry is an added strength. The department consists of experienced faculty members including two faculty members with the doctoral degree and three faculty members currently pursuing Ph.D. The faculty members have many national and international paper presentations to their credit and have served as resource persons at state, national and international forums.

Focuses on developing nursing professionals in equipping with competencies for meeting the mental health needs of the individual, family and society.

The department is dedicated to quality oriented nursing education, provision for improving quality patient care and enriched research activities to develop all around personality of the nursing students
