Social Responsibility and Participation in Rural Development

For several years, the Deemed University has been conducting on a regular basis, a number of medical camps and also participated in various other programs under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Nirmal Bharat Abhyaan through NSS and NCC. These have helped instill a sense of social responsibility and provided opportunities for students to be involved in rural development.

Sri Ramachandra Hospital has conducted multi-speciality camps at Rasipuram, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Vellore, Melmalaiyanur, Arakkonam, Jolarpet, Perathur, Atcharapakkam and Chennai. Faculty, Postgraduates and CRRIs from various departments participated in the camps. Some basic investigations were done at no cost including ECG, Ultrasound and Echocardiography. Camps were conducted for school children at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kalpakkam, Sundar Matriculation School, Poonamallee and Sri Ram Matriculation School, Thiruneermalai.

Specialists from the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, ENT, Paediatrics, Dermatology and Orthopaedics provide consultations on weekdays at Lions club of Velachery, Chennai. On the request of Corporation of Chennai, special outreach camps have been conducted at Nerkundram, Madhuravoyal, Mugalivakkam & Shakthi Nagar and poly clinics are functioning at Poonamallee, Valasaravakkam, Mugalivakkam, Alandur and Nerkundram.

Sri Ramachandra Hospital conducted Gaja cyclone relief - free medical camp from 23.11.18 to 25.11.18 at Thiruvarur, Thiruthuraipoondi, Pattukottai & Mangudi during which 1937 patients were treated.

The year 2018 also marked the completion of 12,000 free cleft surgeries under the support of Smile train. The departments of Plastic Surgery, Orthodontics, Community Dentistry, Speech Language and Hearing Sciences have continued to provide comprehensive care to almost 500 children with cleft palate living in rural areas of Cuddalore and Thiruvanamallai through funding from Transforming Faces Canada.

The hospital also observed several international and national days to raise awareness through several initiatives such as human chain, awareness walks, exhibitions, free screening, radio talks and street plays.
