VIDYA SUDHA - REPORT 2007 - 2008
 

Vidya Sudha had a host of activities through the year Activities in Vidya Sudha are for both children & parents.

Every month we celebrate a theme in the centre. All activities are centred around this theme. Nursery rhymes, songs, games, art, Montessori activities and outdoor trips are centered around the theme.

Listed below are the theme’s that were introduced each month:

  • June: Flowers

  • July: Community helpers

  • August: Wild animals

  • September: Festivals

  • October: States of India

  • November: fruits

  • December: Colors

  • January: Shapes

  • February: Birds

  • March: Nutrition

  • April: Vegetables
It’s astonishing how much the children grasp from the activities centered around the themes.

Apart from the themes various festivals were celebrated that included Independence Day, Krishnajayanthi, Vinayagar Chaturthi, Vijayadasami, Deepavali, Children’s Day, World disability day, Christmas, Pongal, Grandparents day, Siblings day and Parents Day.

An integral part of Vidya Sudha’s annual schedule is the Sports Day. 3rd Annual Sports Day was celebrated in SRMC grounds. Mrs. Hema Sridhar Teacher Trainer & KG Co-ordinator Childrens Garden School Society was the Chief Guest. it was great the watching the children participate in the march past, drill and various other games.

Lectures from the various departments of SRU are very important in our monthly schedule. Some of the departments who gave us some insights are

  • Department of Community Medicine

  • Department of human genetics

  • Department of Dermatology

  • Department of ENT

  • Department of Pediatrics

  • Department of OB & Gyn

  • Department of Nutrition & dietetics

Apart from these lectures there were c amps conducted by the following departments:

  • Dental college

  • Department of Ophthalmology

  • Department of Pediatrics (Immunization)

Competitions are always galore in \tidya Sudha & every month there was a competition in accordance with the theme. It gives not only the children a chance to explore their talents but also allows the mothers to explore the creativity in themselves.

At Vidya Sudha we encourage outdoor visits as it enables parents to overcome their inhibition about taking their special child out. Some of the places visited was

  • Kiddos 2007 - an exhibition for children

  • Vandalur Zoo

  • Bombay Circus

  • VGP

Other activities of Vidya Sudha

  • SNACK
    Snack - Special Needs activity centre for kids was born of a dream to create a place where children with special needs can interact with others to learn practical skills. SNACK conducts special camps & activities for children. A summer camp was organized by SNACK where 15 children participated & benefited

  • Vidva Sudha Partners In Education (VSPE) Program
    We hope to involve businesses, organizations, clubs, associations, and individuals committed to serve children with special needs under VSPE.

Our results:

No. of children included in normal schools: 24

No. of children promoted from Upanayan Phase Ito Upanayan Phase 2 : (for the current academic year) 20

No. of children attending the evening clinic: 15

No. of children assessed: 127

No. of children admitted: 123

No. of children availing concession: 17


Our results are very encouraging & we are striving harder to achieve our goal of helping children with special needs & their families overcome their disability & transform it into a special ability.
