Duathlon Relay 2018

Duathlon relay 2018, the second installment of the SRMC&RI Student council initiative took place on Saturday,March the 10th. The event was conducted campus wide, with registrations made open to all members of the SRMC&RI Family- Students, Consultants, Teaching and Non-Teaching staff of all 9 colleges.

The event was conducted in association with Cleft and Craniofacial centre and Smile Train, a non profit cleft charity providing free cleft surgery and care to children in need throughout India and the world. With a voluminous turnout of 180 teams with each team comprising of a 5 members lead by a faculty, the event comprised of a 5 legged relay with 3 rounds of 500m dash, one 1.2 km run and a 2km cycling.

The adrenaline filled environment fuelled by a clement morning made the day a memorable one to all 1200 plus participants, organisers and volunteers. With the first leg flagged of by our Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof.P.V.Vijayaraghavan and Senior Advisor Prof.T.K.Parthasarathy, the event in turn was graced by the presence of the accomplished filmmaker Mr.Gowtham V Menon as the Chief Guest.

His friendly demeanour and humility won all of us. The need to abolish the stigma associated with Cleft and the importance of raising awareness with regards to the ease of access to treatment was stressed upon. The dignitaries included the Dean of Medical College, Dean of Students and the Assistant Deans Of Students.

The event in turn was covered by various media outlets- Captain TV,Puthiya Thalaimurai, Vendhar TV and Raj TV to name a few. The Department of Sports Medicine team bagged the first place and the top 3 winners were felicitated by the chief guest and the dignitaries. The event was signed off by breakfast provided by our honourable chancellor -Thiru. V.R.Venkatachalam.
