MBBS CRRI Farewell

A farewell event was organized by the Student Council 2019-2020 for the batch of 2015-16 (Xanthrons) on the 9th of January, 2020. The rather formal appeal of the seminar hall was transformed into a festive venue characterized by over-hanging snowflakes across the walls, decorated photo booths and a variety of balloons to honour and give a proper sendoff to the batch.

The event began in the evening with the wise words of our esteemed Dean of Medical College, Dr.S. Anandan, recollecting his graduation days to inspire the current batch into taking this next step in their professional medical careers with confidence and pride. This was followed by a solo musical performance by Ms. Ayswarya Mohan of the Wyverns batch (MBBS 2nd year, 3rd semester) whose dulcet rendition of the infamous ‘Munbe Va’ left the audience in stunned silence. Next was Dr. Leena Dennis Joseph, our Associate Dean of Students, who spoke greatly of the batch and left them smiling with a personalized touch of humor. Dr Rajesh,CRRI incharge of SRMC was also present and coordinated the whole event ,with the help of students council and the medical education unit.
The Wyverns band performed a fusion of Tamil, English and Hindi songs touching harmonies and gaining applause from the audience as they ended on a melodious note. This was followed by Dr. Pavithra introducing the graduating batch to the alumni network of SRIHER and the various career opportunities members can benefit from. Thereafter, the event was graced with the presence of Dr. Balaji Singh, Dean of Students who gave his blessings and wished them an eventful future ahead.

As one section of performances ended, the event saw active participation and interaction from the Xanthrons as they played truth and dare, rapid fire amongst each other in an effort to witness several secrets being revealed followed by smirks and laughter. Mr. Vamsi of the Wyverns batch did a commendable job on keeping the audience entertained. The games continued with a dual battle to blow cups from inflated balloons, as the spectators cheered their colleagues on.
Next, a short film, comprising a variety of pictures, memories and incidents was displayed for the Xanthrons. The film, made by Ms. Rethenya and Mr. Pramod of the Wyverns batch, was successful in encapsulating nostalgic moments this batch has shared with each other. Pictographs varying from classrooms to batch parties, from group photographs to humorous poses etc. evoked laughter and tears, truly touching the hearts of all those present.
Thereafter, a first year MBBS student performed for the Xanthrons leaving them in awe,of her soothing vocal rendition. This was followed by a dance performance from the Wyverns, who brought the audience at the edge of their seats to songs such as ‘Jimmiki Kammal’ and ‘Pistah’.

Two cakes which were brought for the event were cut following the enthralling dance performance. The sound of party poopers literally brought the event to a close with a ‘Bang!’, after which the audience was free to dance or take pictures.

All in all, the evening was pleasant, enjoyable, filled with love and laughter as the Xanthrons pondered over their last, bittersweet moments in college as a collective batch, bidding adieu to one another. They will be missed.
