RESEARCH THEMES DISCUSSED AT SRIHER SCIENCE WEEK

Cutting edge research themes and presentations by undergraduate and post graduate students, research scholars and faculty were discussed at the weeklong science meet that began at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research here today. The day marks the discovery of Raman effect which was announced by the Nobel Laureate Sir.C.V.Raman.

Inaugurating it the Vice Chancellor Dr.P.V.Vijayaraghavan said defying the popular opinion that clinicians have no time for research many practicing doctors have taken to research at SRIHER where there is an amalgam of healthcare, education and research.  Multiple verticals like cancer biology, genomics, stem cell and research analytics are being developed for researchers to pursue their chosen field  in association with other faculties.  With the National Medical Commission focussing on stimulation based education there is scope for educational research as well. The need of the hour though is to raise our research pursuits to international levels where we compete with the world, he added.

Dr.Kalpana Balakrishnan, Dean Research said research at SRIHER is faculty driven but student centric.  Undergraduate students are the real foundation for research and we are trying to create a research community.   At the weeklong events, UG, PG, PhD students, GATE Faculty awardees, ICMR fellows, extra mural grant investigators and students and faculty entrepreneurs will present their research papers, she added.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. K.Balaji Singh, Dean Students recalled the valuable contribution of the late Professor Chandramohan in motivating undergraduate students to take up research and enabled them to participate in international research fora in Malaysia, South Korea, Indonesia and Geneva.
