Academics
Physiotherapy is the branch of health care services delivered with the aim to maintain, to improve and/or to prevent movement dysfunctions. Physiotherapy uses exercises, soft tissue manipulations and electrotherapeutic modalities like electrical stimulation, ultrasound, and interferential therapy. Modalities like wax bath is also part of therapeutic approaches. Health education to improve the confidence and understanding the medical problem limiting the mobility is a major part of physiotherapy. Physiotherapy also focuses on women’s and geriatric well being.

Physiotherapist deals movement related problems due to musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary and other medical/ surgical conditions. Physiotherapist also play vital role in intensive care units to maintain the musculoskeletal and pulmonary status of the patients.

Courses Offered

Bachelor of Physiotherapy
Duration:  4 years course + 6 months Internship
Annual Intake    :    60
Eligibility: HSC Examination (Academic Stream) of 10+2 curriculum / CBSE / ISC English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Botany and Zoology

Master in Physiotherapy (M.P.T)
Duration : 2 years
Annual intake : Six per Speciality except Women’s Health

Speciality  in M.P.T
Orthopaedics and Traumatology
Neuro Sciences
Cardio Pulmonary Sciences
Women’s Health (2 seats)

Eligibility

1. B.P.T
Candidates for admission to the Bachelor of Physiotherapy course should have passed the qualifying examinations, (Academic Stream) after a period of twelve years of study with the following subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Botany and Zoology with minimum of marks as per Deemed to be University regulations.

2. M.P.T
A Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree certificate with not less than 3 and 1/2 years duration (including 6 months of internship) from any university  through full time contact program or equivalent degree from a other recognized university.
Candidates who have passed BPT from any other University should obtain eligibility certificate from the concerned authorities of the Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (Deemed to be University)

1. B.P.T
An Undergraduate in Physiotherapy is to impart in depth knowledge and skill to a student to become competent in the physical diagnosis techniques and develop the proper attitude for the practice of physiotherapy and carry out treatment.
The graduate of physiotherapy program:
Acquire adequate knowledge of the basic medical subjects in the practice of physiotherapy.
Develops skills and techniques of therapeutic massage and exercises for the management of various medical and surgical conditions.
Develops proper attitude for compassion and concern for the individuals and welfare physically handicapped in the community.
Demonstrates skill in teaching, management, research, guidance and counseling.

2. M.P.T
Under the guidance of World Confederation of physiotherapy, The Indian Association of Physiotherapists aims to streamline the standard of physiotherapy education in our Country. One of the aims is to offer higher education to the graduates of physiotherapy. Based on this, on post graduate education will be able to meet the challenging needs of the Health Services provision as well as physiotherapy education in India. At Sri Ramachandra College of Physiotherapy, we offer Master in Physiotherapy in three specialties.
At the end of the completion of Master of Physiotherapy the Post graduate students will be able to
Apply advanced knowledge of clinical science to problem solving.
Gather and interpret information within a holistic frame work.
Design, implement and monitor appropriate therapeutic programmes.
Apply scientific principles to the concepts of health, illness and disability.
Promote health
Appraise the social and political context of health care.

Add on Program
Skill enhancement program: Ergonomics and Health Promotion
(Offered under choice based credit system to other departments)
This course equips the student with concepts of ergonomics, posture and physical activity in health perspective. It provides knowledge on basics of movement mechanics and energy expenditure, posture-effects, need for physical activity, assessment of associated health risks and strategies for Health promotion.

Physical Health
(Offered under choice based credit system to other departments) 
This course makes the learner to understand the essence and importance of physical activity and related disorders. 


Scope of Practice

Can Work In Hospital: Once qualified, a physiotherapist can work in a general hospital of multi-specialty hospital or in rehabilitation centers for the locomotor impairments (Orthopaedic and neurological) or in the community. He/she can educate and train people from all walks of life about back care and fitness exercises. He may also provide service to maternity patients by way of antenatal classes, post natal exercises and posture training.

Private Practice: Opting for private practice and by setting up private clinics, a physiotherapist may treat a wide range of patients suffering from musculoskeletal and other problems like pain, stiffness, reduced range of joint motions, paralysis and /or weakness of muscles etc.

Corporate Sector and Industries: Due to globalization, there is growing demand for physiotherapists in our Country to work in large corporate sectors and industries which operate health care delivery centre for their employees. Physiotherapists can have ‘on-the-spot-study’ of workers at work places and provide ergonomic advice to them to avoid physical pain associated with particular type of work

Teaching Profession: Some may like to acquire post - graduate qualification and work as a faculty in a college of physiotherapy and teach and train young students in the art and science of Physiotherapy.
