English Literary Club Competitions – 20th to 26th February 2021

ELC COMPETITIONS -2021
The following is a summary of the “Annual English literary competitions – 2021″ conducted by the English Literary Club of SRIHER (DU) for the 1st year undergraduate students of various programmes.
The pandemic pushed us to explore new arenas to keep the legacy of our English Literary Club. All the competitions were conducted online to comply with the “new normal”.
The competitions held this year included the following:
• POETRY WRITING
• REMAKE THE STORY
• MONOACTING
• JUST A MINUTE
• SPELL BEE

POETRY WRITING:

• The event was conducted on 26th Feb ,2021, between 8:30 am and 10:00 am
• A total of 27 students registered for the event, out of which 11 students took part in the event.
• The competition was judged by Dr. Sheela Ravinder, Assoc. Prof. Dept of Physiology.

The winners of the event were
1st place: Ms. Mariane Seles, MBBS
2nd place: Ms. Tanmay Batra, MBBS
3rd place: Ms. Janapriya M, BOT

REMAKE THE STORY:

Mrs. Betty Lincoln, Senior Lecturer in Physics, FAHS

• This event was conducted on 26th February, 2021 between 10 am and 11 am.
• A total of 47 participants registered for the event.
• The competition was judged by Dr. Mathangi, Professor and Head , Department of Mind Body and Lifestyle Sciences
• The theme of the competition was “Space Odyssey”.
• The participants were judged based on:
o Creativity
o Effectiveness of the content
o Choice of vocabulary
o Completion of the event in the given time

The winners of the event were:
1st place: Ms. Thaarunya R V, BOT
2nd place: Ms. Swetha R, MBBS
3rd place: Ms. Harini Anna, BMS.

MONO ACTING:

• The mono acting event was conducted on 20th February, between 1 pm and 2 pm.
• A total of 5 participants enrolled the event.
• The event was judged by Dr. R. Srihari, Demonstrator, Dept. of Physiology
• Participants were judged based on the following criteria:
o Expressiveness
o Fluency
o Clarity & Enunciation
o Gestures & Body Language
o Creativity

The winners of the event were
1st place: Ms. Rasika A, MBBS
2nd place: Ms. Yuthika , MBBS
3rdplace: Mr. Sahil Ali, MBBS

JUST A MINUTE:

This event had two rounds – prelims and finals
• Total no. of participants: 13, Out of which 8 were selected for the finals.
• The preliminary round was conducted on 20th February between 2 pm and 3:30 pm. The judge for the prelims was Mrs.Viji, Administrative Officer, Dean of Faculties.

• Each participant was judged based on his/ her:
o Creativity
o Effectiveness of content deliberation
o Choice of vocabulary
o Fluency and Pronunciation
o Completion within the given time

• The final event was conducted on 26th February between 11:15 am and 12:30 pm.
• It was judged by Dr.Shabna Roupal Morias, Assistant Professor, Dept., of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy.

SPELL BEE:

Ms. Jothsna Aravindan, III Year B. Sc. Clinical Nutrition
Dr.Cynthia Milton, Senior Lecturer in English, FAHS

• The spell-bee had two rounds including the prelims and the finals which were held on 20th February and 26th February, respectively.
• There were 67 participants for the prelims, out of which 11 made it to the finals.
• The final event was live-streamed on YouTube.
• The prelims had one round – Guess and Spell
• The finals had 3 rounds – Reverse Spell, Sentence making, Spell the words

The winners of the event were :
1st place: Mr. Agnivo Chatterjee, MBBS
2nd place: Ms. Bhavana, Medical Microbiology & Applied Molecular Biology
3rd place: Ms. Sreenidhi V, BMS.

The prize distribution ceremony of the competitions was held on 4th March at 1 pm. The student member, Mr. Ganeeth S Shivraj, III year B. Sc Sports and Exercise Sciences emceed the event. The report on the ELC competitions – 2021 was read out by Ms. Jothsna Aravindan, III year B. Sc Clinical Nutrition. Dr. S. Senthil Kumar, Principal of Faculty of AHS, Dr. Leena Dennis Joseph and Dr. Lakshmi Venkatesh, Asst. Dean Students graced the occasion, gave away the prizes to the winners, and honoured the judges and organizers with a token of appreciation and certificates.

The event came to an end with vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Thulasi S Rajasekaran, III Year, B.Sc Biomedical Sciences.
