Report for Earth Day Celebration – 22nd April 2021

This year the Theme of Earth day was ‘Restore our Earth’ which focuses not only on the need to reduce our impact on the planet as we recover from the effects of covid19, but also we can take some measures to control damage to our Planet .
This year’s world Earth Day celebration was organized by the Students club, Sri Ramachandra Faculty of Pharmacy, SRIHER (DU). The Programme commenced around 2:30 pm on April 22-2021 virtually through Google-meet with the presence of eminent personalities Dr. K. Balaji Singh, Dean (Students), Dr. S. Shankar, Prof & Head (Department of Environmental Health Sciences) Sri Ramachandra Faculty of Public Health, Dr. K. Chitra, Principal i/c & Dr. K. Mangathayaru, Vice Principal (Addl) of Sri Ramachandra Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculties and Students to rejoice the celebration of Our Mother-Earth day.
The program started with an invocation song followed by SRIHER anthem.
Welcome address was delivered by Dr. K. Chithra, Principal i/c, Sri Ramachandra Faculty of Pharmacy- SRIHER (Du), to Honor the gathering, followed by Inaugural address by Dr. K. Balaji Singh, Dean (Students) SRIHER (DU).
Our Chief Guest of the day Dr. S. Shankar, Professor & Head, Dept of Environmental Health Engineering, Sri Ramachandra Faculty of Public Health-SRIHER (DU), enlightened us with his speech on the topic ” BAN ON PLASTICS-WHY?”
Later we arrived to the most awaited moment- prize distribution for the Essay competitions (English & Tamil) conducted for the Earth day on the theme – “ELIMINATION OF SINGLE USE PLASTICS” organized by Students Club, Sri Ramachandra Faculty of Pharmacy. We almost received 59 responses for the essay competition both in English and Tamil.
English and Tamil essay were evaluated by Ms. Vidhya. L; Senior Lecturer in English; Faculty of Allied Health Sciences; SRIHER (DU) & Ms. Geetha. D; Lecturer; Faculty of Nursing; SRIHER (DU) and Dr. Priscilla Johnson; Professor & Head Physiology, Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute; SRIHER(DU) respectively. In English, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 3 consolation prizes and in Tamil, 1st, 2nd, 3rd were awarded to the winners participated across the constituent colleges of our university.
Finally, the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. K. Mangayatharu, Vice Principal (Addl), Sri Ramachandra Faculty of Pharmacy, SRIHER (DU).
At last, the programme successfully came to end around 3; 45 pm.
