Biochemistry

About the Department / Program
The Department of Biochemistry was established in 1985. Faculty members are involved in teaching basic and clinical Biochemistry to undergraduate and postgraduate students, conducting research and maintaining quality clinical diagnostic services as per the national and international standards. Clinical Biochemistry laboratory is part of Sri Ramachandra Laboratory Services (SRLS), SRLS is accredited by NABH and NABL since 2007. Undergraduate programs include MBBS, BDS, BPT, BSc Nursing, post-basic BSc nursing and various allied health science programs. Postgraduate programs include MD Biochemistry, MSc Biochemistry and various other MD and MSc programs in Pre and Para clinical specialties. The Department of Biochemistry actively participates in design and implementation of the competence based undergraduate Medical curriculum and also plays a leading role in coordinating of Phase-I program for medical students. Apart from regular teaching, the department strives to innovate teaching by conducting “Criativo” (integrated problem based learning) for Medical students and “pathway puzzle” for dental students to enable them to understand the biochemical pathways through an interactive approach. Faculty members of the department have undergone training in laboratory quality management and internal audit as per ISO 15189 and five are NABL technical assessors,   two are NABL lead assessors and one NABH assessor.

The aim of the department is to enable the students to comprehend the relevance of biochemistry in their fields. This will facilitate to apply the knowledge in achieving their professional goals.
