Department of Ophthalmology was started in the Year 1986
The Department of Ophthalmology at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research provides consulting, diagnostic and expert treatment services for all aspects of ocular diseases and injuries including inpatient and outpatient surgical care, rehabilitation, orthoptics and low visual aids. Our surgeons have specific training and experience in a broad range of subspecialities such as cornea, retina, uvea, glaucoma, squint, neuro ophthalmology, paediatric ophthalmology, orbit, and oculoplasty. The Department is recognized for its work in patient care, education, and research. Training of both undergraduates and postgraduates comprises of both basic and research programs which focus on academic and surgical components. On regular basis training is given to both medical and paramedical students.
The Department of Ophthalmology specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of eye disorders and diseases, providing hospital-based eye care for the most challenging ophthalmic cases and procedures, as well as year-round ophthalmic care, state-of-the-art dedicated ophthalmology operating room facilities and a devoted, caring staff.Objectives of the department :
• Comprehensive eye care for all ages of patients, both corporate as well as service side.
• To attain the goals set by VISION 2020-WHO with major thrust on prevention of blindness.
• To work with other specialities whenever multidisciplinary approach needed for systemic diseases with ocular involvement.
What the department deals with :
Routine outpatient services provided by consultants of different grades and those patients who require special care are cross referred to sub speciality clinics for expert management.

Interesting & challenging cases in different sub specialities of Ophthalmology are evaluated and treated in the different speciality clinics. Children also evaluated under KCDU scheme.
