Mentoring Workshop
Prof. Tejinder Singh, Program Director, CMCL-FAIMER Regional Institute for Faculty Development at CMC, Ludhiana on 25thOctober 2013. 29 faculty members from SRMC participated

Research Methodology Workshop
The Medical Unit along with Department of Community Medicine commenced one day Research Methodology Workshop for middle level faculty of the University. This was to sensitize and promote Research Orientation for carrying out projects, enhance publications and innovations.

Online Workshop on Simulation Education
"Online Workshop on Simulation Education" was conducted in Sri Ramachandra Centre for Health Professionals Education (SRCHPE) in collaboration with Hull University, UK. SRIHER and Hull University are collaborating to develop Curriculum and Clinical teaching skills in Simulation for application in Medical Education and skill training.

As a first step towards this, the “Training the Trainer Workshop” on “SIMULATION EDUCATION “ for Health Professional Educators was conducted as a six hour Online Workshop through Skype connection between SRIHER and Hull University. Professor Dr. Makani Purva, Chair of Standards for Simulation based education Committee at Hull University and Dr. Sreekumar, Anaesthetist from SRMC&RI trained at Hull University were the faculty.

Faculty members from Faculties of Medical, Dental, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences participated. The program included interactive lectures, Scenario writing, demonstration activity and debriefing training.

For the first time in our University, this workshop was conducted through Skype. The feedback from the participants was encouraging and boosted confidence to train students in Simulation education. A focussed workshop that will reinforce the concepts and to sustain teacher competence is being planned soon.

Faculty Development Programme on Blended Learning
In lieu of the recommendations by the UGC on Digital India Initiative, Department of Medical Education Unit initiated a training course in Blended Learning to all the faculty members of our Institute. It is well established that appropriate use of ICT and Learning management system (LMS) will enhance the learning experience. Empowering faculty members with advanced teaching methods will enable us to achieve our mission.

Journal Club:
We conduct monthly Journal club meeting to discuss journal articles related to Medical Education.

SRIHER-HUTH INDO-UK SCIENTIFIC SUMMIT ON SIMULATION(February 28th 2020)

OBJECTIVES:
Simulation is the present day state of art in health care education. Our conference is unique as it is Interprofessional with the participating beneficiaries being Faculties of Medical College, Dental College, Nursing College and Allied Health Sciences. The Conference highlights are lectures on Simulation in health care education, research and funding opportunities in Simulation, latest modalities in Simulation; Debate on the cost-effectiveness and need for Simulation in health care education. These lectures covered the need for Simulation in health care education, how to inculcate Simulation into our present curriculum, what are the various research studies that could be done in Simulation and also funding options available for the same. Virtual and Augmented reality is the latest in Simulation education. There were live demonstrations of Virtual reality tools in Basic life support, in surgical training and various other aspects of health care education.

HANDS ON TRAINING WORKSHOP SESSION:
The Hands on training workshops were :i) Developing and setting up In-situ simulation. ii)ABC of Debriefing: (iii) Top tips for setting up a Simulation center and Sim program.

  • Insitu Simulation: Simulation in clinical practice is best understood when training is done in the routine clinical treatment areas. By deliberately practicing the Simulation training in high pressure patient care environment, the realism in Simulation education is achieved. It helps to analyse the lacunae and issues addressed during real time emergencies and patient care. All the participants had a hands on training session on how to set up an INSITU Simulation for a given scenario and were asked the present the same.
  • Debriefing: Debriefing is the heart of Simulation education. The present Competency based Medical curriculum also emphasizes the importance of Debriefing. A video scenario on AETCOM – Showing empathy to patients and co-workers was relayed and all the participants were individually allowed to do Debriefing which was debriefed by experts.
  • Setting up a Simulation centre and Simulation program: The present need of the hour in any health education institution is a Simulation centre. It is not a simple task to set up a Simulation centre and to develop an inter professional Simulation program. International and National Simulation experts share the top tips to set up a Sim centre and plan the Sim program. All the participants had a hands on training session on how to set up a Simulation Centre.
  • The participants had hands on practice on VIRTUAL REALITY TOOLS for surgical procedures, urinary catheterization, nasogastric tube insertion, clinical examination of a cirrhosis patient and many more in the presence of experts. The professionals who had developed the VR tools demonstrated and clarified the queries.

CONCLUSIONS FROM THE WORKSHOP
Faculty Development and training in Simulation education

Identify three levels of Skills and simulation education across all colleges in SRIHER

  • Training in competencies, that is mandated for all Health Care professionals , in a centralized Skills and Simulation centre
  • Training, that requires centralized or in situ simulation education, on competencies requiring inter-professional team learning. (attainment of competencies to levels as appropriate to their licensing and practice)
  • Training conducted as in- situ simulation at workplace in competencies that are specific or may be highly specialized for the program or area of practice

Level 1, Level 2 and level 3 Faculty development workshops to continue until at least another 100 UG faculty are trained

Course in simulation education on Blended mode to be offered

At least 8 more faculty (inter-professionals) to undergo training at HILS in a year

Create a student experience at HILS
