Online Classes and Moodle

University

The main learning management system in our university is the Moodle. The Moodle was started as the primary LMS in the year 2016. So far 650 faculty members have been trained to use the Moodle platform. There are totally 2,900 enrolled members including the faculty in the medical college. We have an additional 5700 HSE (health science education) members as well. We started initially with the 3.3 version and now upgraded to the 3.8 version. There are a number of training videos on the usage of Moodle in our Ramachandra portal.

Moodle remains our primary asynchronous mode of online education for our students. Even in the pre-Covid era, moodle has remained as a platform for blended learning. The basic medical specialities have used moodle to prepare students for flipped classroom. This year, hundreds of educational videos have been uploaded in the moodle platform for the students to learn. With the introduction of the Big Blue Button, synchronous mode of online teaching has been started for small groups especially for post graduate students. The main modality of synchronous online teaching is by way of Google meets. With the onset of the Covid pandemic Google meets have become the main mode of teaching for the students. All our faculty and students have unique Ramachandra email ids to maintain privacy and confidentiality of our learning resources. The google meets are now incorporated into the moodle to prevent unauthorised access to our learning material. With our indigenous teaching methods we are not only able to impart theoretical knowledge but also teach clinical skills to our students using the Google meets. Students use the moodle to submit assignments online easily. We conduct regular online assessments using the moodle. Of late we have started using proctored online assessments as well to improve the veracity of the process.
