About the Department

The Unit of Oncology was started at SRMC in the year 2007 to take care of the treatment needs of the various cancer patients visiting the hospital. Today, approximately 5,000 – 6,000 patients receive inpatient and outpatient care (curative and palliative) in the department every year. The treatment protocols followed are strictly based on evidence-based International and National guidelines on cancer treatment.
Treatment modalities including surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and supportive care are provided by various concerned specialists to patients with cancers of various sites for both adult and paediatrics.

ADULT HEMATO ONCOLOGY: 

We  provide a high level haemato-oncology service in a caring and friendly environment giving due consideration to the patient needs.

We aim to deliver high quality care for all our in-patient and out-patients with access to the latest novel, effective and appropriate treatments in line with the standard International protocols and guidelines.

We work together with a team of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists in a multidisciplinary setting and above all offer psychological support. 

As a tertiary/teaching hospital we will also offer a second opinion service to patients, physicians and hospitals at local, regional and national and international level in dealing with difficult diagnostic and management challenges.

 

PEDIATRIC ONCOLOGY:

  • Comprehensive Oncology Services include -
    Diagnostic evaluation,
    OP based, Day care or IP, based chemotherapy.
  • Extensive psychological and social support and palliative care services.
  • Cancers treated in the Department includes Pediatric Leukemia (ALL, AML, CML), Lymphomas (non-hodgkin's and hodgkin's), as well as all Pediatric solid Tumors like Neuroblastoma, Wilms Tumor, Bone and Soft Tissue Sarcoma, Brain Tumor, Hepatoblastoma.
  • Survivor clinic comprising of clinical psychologist, cardiologist, endocrinologist and dietician to promote the long term health of cancer survivors

 

PEDIATRIC HEMATO ONCOLOGY: 

Pediatric Hemato Oncology Caters to all pediatric solid tumors and hematological malignancies. We have dedicated and trained oncology nursing staff , Pediatric ICU care, Pediatric surgery team for infusaport ; Blood bank, Genetics, Nutrition, Clinical Psychology , Physiotherapy.

Our services: Chemotherapy, Blood transfusion, genetic analysis, infusa port insertion, Radiotherapy, invasive procedures under adequate analgesia in PICU settings.
