About the Department

Children’s cancers are very different than adult cancers and a range of unique issues needs to be considered and hence the need of dedicated paediatric oncologists. Adolescent  cancer  patients have unique challenges and  oncologists needs to take into account of their self esteem, emerging independence attitude  and side effects of treatment that can affect their future. Cancer care today means 360 degree comprehensive care, which requires commitment, expertise and an indomitable spirit from the cancer specialists. Treatment for childhood cancers has improved in leaps and strides with an overall survival rate of above 80% for majority of them.  The Paediatric   Hemato Oncology unit was  started in 2008  at SRMC and we see around 100 new patients per year.  We offer  advanced, individualized care for newly diagnosed children, teens and young adults with cancers and blood disorders.
