About the Department

The department was started in the year 1986 with one faculty, now strength grown up to 24 faculties by 2015. The faculty profile comprises of 24 full-time Diagnostic Radiologists with expertise in every diagnostic modality and special interest in the super specialty.  Apart from this two full-time Medical physicists taking regular classes in the radiological physics relevant to imaging as per the curriculum and also serve as radiation safety officers in the department.
Faculty members by themselves have good acclaim in the national circle, and several of them have received super specialty training from reputed institutions within the country and abroad.  Several of them due to their academic excellence, are the guest faculty in various regional, national and international conferences and  prestigious administrative positions in professional bodies.
Dr. Vidhyanathan MBBS, DMRD was the first Head of the Department (1988 – 89) followed by Dr. Bhoopal (September 1989).  In 1990, Professor Dr. Natarajan MD, DRM headed the department. Subsequently, Professor Dr. D.R. Subramanian MD, DMRD took over and headed the department till June 2005, and Professor Dr. Santhosh Joseph MD from July 2005 to 4th May 2012 and  Currently Professor Dr. P.M. Venkata Sai DMRD, DNB Ph.D.FICR is the Head of the Department.
The department runs the following courses M.D. Radio Diagnosis, B.Sc.  Allied Health Sciences (Radiology & Imaging Sciences Technology),  M.Sc.  Medical Imaging Technology,  M.Sc.  Medical Radiology & Imaging Technology ( 5 yr integrated course ). Number of investigation done daily Plain X-ray 500 – 550, CT  Scan 60 – 65, MRI  Scan 25 – 30 Mammography 2 – 4, Fluroscopy  3 – 5 Ultrasonography  150 – 200, Nuclear Medicine 3-5,  Interventional Radiology 2 – 4 .
The Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences, Sri Ramachandra University offers diagnostic services through wide array of imaging modalities, performs academic activities by publications, presentations scientific conferences, conducts research based studies, executes projects organize conferences / workshops for education and also involves in patient care activities, maintain in patient and out patient for interventional procedures and executes intensive care for these patients. This was possible by a dedicated team of Radiologists, Interventionists, technologists and allied health staff.
