About the Department / Program
Department of Ophthalmology was started in the Year 1986

The Department of Ophthalmology at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education & Research provides state of the art care in ophthalmology coupled with modern advancements and opportunities for research. The department boasts of specialists trained in all the sub specialities of ophthalmology viz glaucoma, cornea, retina, orbit and oculoplasty, neuro-ophthalmology, pediatric and squint and Uvea. The services provided in the sub-specialities are par excellence and surgical management in the various
disciplines is also undertaken. There is a specialized eye bank with modern equipment and a well-developed hospital cornea retrieval program that aids in the transplantation ofcorneas through the year.

The community outreach program covers 3 major districts in Tamil Nadu and aims to provide high quality affordable care to people across the state and also eradicate the preventable causes of blindness. There also numerous opportunities for research and extensive work being carried in the various specialities and also a special program to screen for Retinopathy of prematurity in coordination with the pediatric and neonatology department.

Objectives of the Department:

What the department deals with

Routine outpatient services provided by faculty and those patients who require sub speciality referrals are seen in sub specialty clinics for effective management.

 Interesting & challenging cases in different sub specialities of Ophthalmology are evaluated and treated in the different speciality clinics. Advancements in visual rehabilitation and low vision are also made available to patients. Children with various developmental delays are enrolled under KCDU scheme, where they will be followed up till 18 years of age by a dedicated multidisciplinary team.
