Medical Gastroenterology

D.M Gastroenterology

Two post-graduate Candidates per year
Since 2012 three PG candidates per year.
3-year course with curriculum as approved by the Board of Sri Ramachandra University.

 Objectives:
To produce dedicated, competent gastroenterologist with the requisite knowledge and structured endoscopy training for better healthcare.

Training provided:
In a carefully structured and supervised setting, trainees are exposed to clinical and procedural activities designed to gradually increase in complexity while they gradually decrease in the level of directed supervision.
During this super-specialization training, fellows have clinical training getting exposed to diverse patient population presenting with a broad range of GI disorders and handle all kinds of GI emergencies during this period.
They are also trained in various procedures such as liver biopsy, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP.
They are also exposed to advanced procedures/ newer techniques such as endoscopic ultrasonography.
They have combined clinical rounds and discussions with departments of GI surgery, radiology and pathology.
They complete one theses dissertations during this periods working on clinically relevant and endemic problems.

Teaching, Learning & Evaluation:
General Ward Rotations.
Emergency and Intensive care patient’s evaluation and management.
Out Patient assessment and management.
Case presentations and discussions.
On call duties.
Subject seminars, Journal club presentations.
Oral presentation and poster presentation in conferences.
Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
Basic ERCP training.
Dissertation work.

Monthly meeting between departments of Pathology and Medical gastroenterology
Gastroenterology-Radiology meet:
Monthly meeting between departments of Radiology and Medical gastroenterology. 
Presentations from Department of MGE in monthly Physicians’ conference.
