DM Hepatology Program
  • Department of Hepatology has been approved   by the Board of Governors in supersession of  Medical Council of India for conducting  DM Hepatology  super specialty program.
  • It is the sixth super specialty  program in the country and only the third  with an active liver transplant program. 
  • Intake: 2 seats per  academic year

Training that will be provided
Objectives
  1. To acquire skills in patient care both in Op and IP cases,
  2. Follow protocol-based management of various cases of liver disease keeping in mind the various International and Indian guidelines,
  3. Acquire analytical skills in clinical diagnosis, emergency management, diagnostic procedures interpretation of x-rays, histological interpretation, interpretation of various scientific articles, art of presentation in National and International forum.
  4. The training program will also include research work and publications. In the journal club, the postgraduates review includes relevant studies published in the latest journals, presents them and critically analyze the design of the study, the results, drawbacks and feasibility of carrying out the study in our set up.
  5. In the mortality meeting, the treatment course and probable cause of death of the patients expired recently in the ward is discussed.
  6. For Liver transplant and liver tumours, an in-house interdisciplinary approach will be adopted to patient care.

Participating in teaching program  for DM Gastroenterology post graduates.  Following  is the acadmic program planned for DM in Hepatology
  1. Monday: Seminar
  2. Tuesday: Journal club
  3. Wednesday:
    a. Bedside clinics and Grand rounds
    b.Telemed clinics: Hyderabad, Global Hospital, Chennai
  4. Thursday: Case presentation
  5. Friday: Short seminars
  6. Saturday: Research update
  7. First Thursday of every month: Gastro – Path meeting, Gastro – Radio meeting
  8. Last Wednesday of every month: Mortality meeting

Achievements
Succeeded in performing first LDLT within 8 months of starting the hepatology department.  Patients are being wait listed and we will be performing several more with induction of an in-house transplant program
Conducted a one week free Hepatitis camp.  Promoting HBV vaccination for all.
