Community Medicine

Academics
The courses offered by Department are;

M.D. in Community Medicine:
Postgraduate course in M.D. (Community Medicine) was started in Aug. 2000. The course had an intake of 3 students per year and was given recognition by the Medical Council of India (MCI) in the year 2003. During the recent inspection by the MCI in 2010 the seats have been increased to 4. Postgraduate students, in addition to regular training programmes in academics, undertake research projects, participate in community development activities, service camps, monitoring and evaluation of National Health Programmes and community surveys which equip them with academic, administrative and managerial skills to serve well in any academic /research institution or health organization.

M.B.B.S (along with other departments in Sri Ramachandra Medical College):
Undergraduate medical students are facilitated to learn different aspects of community medicine through lectures classes, group discussions, problem solving exercises, clinico-social case presentations and by posting them to various community based organizations in the Primary Health Care setting both in rural and urban areas and to other NGOs / Voluntary Organizations to acquire clinical skills and communication skills to enable them to serve as primary health care physicians.
