Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Academics
The Department offers MS (OBG) courses to with an intake of 18 students per year in addition to providing teaching and training to 250 MBBS candidates per batch per year .The department also extends its teaching services to Nursing, Physiotherapy & Accident and Emergency Medicine students.

The department imparts soft skill training to the young interns which helps them  fare well in handling patients and relatives during stressful conditions.

Apart from this there is a well equipped skills laboratory to train the undergraduates, interns and post graduates in surgical skills and procedures.

Labour room drills are held monthly for all obstetric emergencies for all the doctors and nurses in the Department.

The Division of Fetal Medicine offers Fellowship in Fetal Medicine for a duration of  two years(1 candidate per year), Basic  OBGYN Ultrasound Training (6 months) (2 candidates), Advanced OBGYN Ultrasound Training(1 Year) (2 candidates).

Training Provided (Special like simulation lab etc.,)-
Apart from a well designed curriculum  as per MCI norms additional training is provided by way of Skills Lab Teaching ,Pedagogy, Ethicon Resident Training Programme  etc. A well maintained Departmental library  is used extensively by the Faculty and Postgraduates .Also a  video library containing  both regular and advanced procedures  is available .

Teachers / Faculty Training-
Faculty are encouraged to attend Conferences, Workshops, Training Programs and to present  Papers & Posters both national and international levels.  There is faculty development training for both basic and advanced courses our hospital is a nodal centre for this training.

Achievements-
Annual Postgraduate Revision Course (OGQuest) since 1997.
Refresh -Annual Summer Conference for practioners initiated in 2016 May along with Srimathi Kamalam Ramasamy Udayar Oration in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
Annual Rapid Revision Course for Final Year  MBBS students of SRIHER is conducted for a day.

Innovative teaching-
Annual Postgraduate Revision Course(OGQuest) conducted at the beginning of every year for the last twenty years has made the postgraduate students  interact with  a number of Eminent Teaching Faculty from all over India who are invited as faculty as well as Postgraduate Students coming from outside SRMC . Obstetric drills Workshop  and  ward rounds done on the first day of the Revision course is appreciated well by the delegates.  Young Faculty and Postgraduates are sent monthly in turn   for Ethicon Resident Training  Programme to teach basic suturing skills and gynaec endoscopy.

There is a relay of live surgeries from operation theater to the lecture halls for better training of the undergraduates and other paramedical staff.
